PROKERA®

ICON Eyecare offers the use of Prokera®, a therapeutic device that can protect, repair, and heal damaged eyes. Doctors use this device to treat keratitis, corneal scarring, chemical burns, infected corneas, and many other corneal diseases.

How does Prokera® work?

Prokera LogoThe Prokera® device is created for each patient by clipping a piece of amniotic membrane tissue and placing it in between two rings that are similar to a contact lens in design and shape, only with healing properties that aid in ocular surface repair. The membrane naturally heals damaged eyes with less pain, less scarring, and less inflammation than other treatments. It is clear and thin, just like the tissue on your eye, and it will protect your eyes as they heal.

Prokera Healing

Prokera® is the only wound healing tissue that has been approved by the FDA. As the eye heals, the membrane will dissolve. It is applied and removed just like a contact lens, with follow-up appointments once a week until fully healed.

ICON Eyecare is proud to offer this state-of-the-art healing technique.
