Meet Dr. Tubbs

Carl Tubbs, M.D. is a native of Washington State. He completed his medical training in Seattle, studied Ophthalmology at the University of Minnesota, then completed his glaucoma fellowship at the University of Virginia in 1993. Following his fellowship, Dr. Tubbs and his wife Christine moved to Stillwater, MN where they lived for 20+ years while raising two wonderful boys. Eventually, family commitments and new opportunities brought them back west to Colorado. First to the Front Range and now to Grand Junction, returning to the peaceful mountain country that they both love.

Dr. Tubbs specializes in the medical and surgical management of glaucoma as well as the surgical management of patients with cataracts. He enjoys educating and was previously a Clinical Assistant Professor of Ophthalmology at the University of MN, instructing residents at the VA Medical Center from 1993 to 2014.

Dr. Tubbs is a Fellow of the American Academy of Ophthalmology and the American Glaucoma Society and is a member of the American Medical Association. He is involved with writing medical device draft standards for ANSI (the American National Standards Institute) and chairs the Medical Devices Division of ANSI Z80. Internationally, he serves as a Technical Advisory Expert (TAG member), helping to represent U.S. interests and opinions within the International Standards Organization (ISO) arena. Through ANSI and the ISO, the safety and effectiveness of intraocular lens implants can be managed on national and international levels. Over the past decade, he has also participated in various research investigations including novel glaucoma medicines and ocular medical devices.

When not working, Dr. Tubbs enjoys photography, hiking, and bicycling with his wife. When the sky permits, he continues to enjoy astrophotography, imaging distant stars and other deep space objects as well as the planets and learning about backyard astronomy and related science.
