LASIK eye surgery is the best known and most commonly performed laser refractive surgery. LASIK reshapes the cornea to correct vision problems including nearsightedness, farsightedness, and astigmatism, and can be an alternative to wearing glasses or contact lenses.
At ICON Eyecare our team of doctors uses the latest laser vision correction technology, including Femtosecond lasers and the Wavelight® laser suite for true bladeless LASIK as well as Contoura® and Vario testing to ensure your LASIK treatment is tailored to you and your eyes.
LASIK is a simple and safe laser surgery that reshapes the cornea to help create naturally crisp images without the need for lenses. Some of the most common candidates for LASIK have vision issues like farsightedness (hyperopia), nearsightedness (myopia) and astigmatism. What typically causes a lack of clarity in vision is the cornea shape. LASIK will either flatten or steepen the curve of the cornea based on your vision issues.
Recovery time after LASIK is minimal. You will be able to return to normal activities within a day in most cases.

Oh, and did we mention, LASIK can save you money!
LASIK isn’t right for everyone, and as a medical ophthalmology practice, ICON offers several vision correction options. Our team will help you understand your options and put a customized care plan together to meet your needs.
Let’s face it – glasses and contacts can be a hassle. If you are a candidate for LASIK eye surgery, you can achieve clear vision without the need for glasses or contacts with help from our experienced LASIK surgeons. LASIK has helped more than 600,000 Americans improve their vision every year. It is one of the most common elective surgeries done in the world.
And yeah, we know glasses can be super cute and trendy. But we don’t know a patient that wouldn’t happily trade in their frames or contact lenses for clear vision. Prescriptions are a hassle and getting frames or contacts becomes expensive. No more irritated eyes from forgetting your contacts. No more smudged glasses that are hard to see out of or reflection issues during pictures. LASIK offers a reliable way to safely improve your natural vision.

Using a cool (non-thermal) beam of light, the surgeon precisely reshapes the cornea so images are conveyed more distinctly to the retina. The procedure is done in two steps: one laser creates a small flap on the cornea and another type of laser changes the corneal surface.
The way the cornea is altered during surgery depends on the vision abnormality being treated. For nearsightedness, bits of tissue are removed to flatten the cornea. To correct farsightedness, the surgeon steepens the cornea. Astigmatism is treated by smoothing out irregularities along the surface of the cornea. ICON LASIK eye doctors use advanced technology to provide better results.
There are several other laser vision correction procedures available if you’re not a LASIK candidate.
Every surgical procedure carries a slight risk, but LASIK has proven to be safe and effective. A small percentage of patients experience dry eye after the treatment.
