ICON Eyecare, Dr. Jay Hoffman and Dr. James Fox donated $10,000 to Colorado Mesa University’s Health Sciences Department during a ceremonial check presentation on Monday, February 15th during a special presentation to motivate regional and industry acceleration in the eye care industry.

“The donation was made on behalf of our entire care team on the western slope in an effort to invest in the surgical talent of the greater Grand Junction region. As long term members of this great community, we are committed to the development of the school’s new surgical tech program and look forward to helping more students find opportunities at our great practice,” says Dr. Rick Anderson, CEO of ICON Eyecare.

“We are so thankful for this generous donation. The money will be used towards the remodel of the new home of our Health Sciences Department in the former Community Hospital Medical Plaza,” says Peggy Lamm, CEO and vice president of Development at CMU.

The future home of the CMU Health Sciences Department will include classrooms, computer labs, an X-ray lab, observation rooms, the latest medical technologies, critical care simulation labs, clinical labs, a student resource room, and post-clinical conference rooms. Once the remodel and expansion is completed, the Health Sciences Department will occupy more than 35,000 square feet.

“Generous gifts such as these address critical space requirements and will advance CMU Health Sciences programs as well as health care in the Grand Valley. We are very grateful to the ICON Eyecare team for stepping up during this exciting expansion,” says Lamm.

“Demand is high for quality healthcare workers across the state and nation. As a Center of Ophthalmology Excellence we are eager to support CMU’s endeavor anyway we can,” says Dr. Anderson.
